| Resident Council sponsors a raffle for a hot air balloon ride each year. This year’s winner was Debra Panicek. Local balloon pilot, Gene Sperber, and a total of 3 passengers launched from the facility grounds and as expected, was the hit of the event. After the launch, the residents, their families, staff and their families, along with neighbors continued to enjoy the music, out of doors and festivities. One of our Vestal Residents had a total of 4 generations of their family in attendance.
The Resident Council of Vestal Nursing Center will be forwarding all proceeds of the event to the mid-west flood relief fund.
The "Little" Spiedie Fest is another example of the high quality of life Residents enjoy at Vestal Nursing Center where "loving care" and a talented staff create a sense of home and community.
What is the Spiedie Festival?:
In 1983, some families argued over who had the best Spiedie recipe in town. Spiedies are small pieces of marinated meat (lamb, chicken, pork or beef) that can be skewered and then grilled. To put an end to their friendly rivalry, they held the first Spiedie Fest Cooking Contests in 1983 and 1984.
After a successful contest in 1984, a committee formed and it was decided to create the first Spiedie Fest Balloon Rally at Otsiningo Park with about 5 hot air balloons, local music and a small children’s area, and the Spiedie Fest Balloon Rally was born and is an annual event.
